Sports Massage

In all types of massage, the therapist has specific aims in mind. In sports, we focus on the individual needs of the athlete.

With the ever-growing number of people taking part in sports, combined with the increasing competitiveness and intensity of physical exercise, the demand for sports massage is also increasing and becoming increasingly recognized as a skill that may aid recovery and enhance performance.

Athletes looking to improve performance and increase their competitive edge do that by adopting a training schedule to enhance their skill, strength, stamina, suppleness, and speed. The degree to which they develop and utilize these qualities will depend on other factors such as the level of competition, the type of sport played, and possibly their position in a team. However, no matter which sport, the aim is to increase their training level and subject the body to gradual and controlled overuse.

It is this overuse that can create problems; and imbalances in the soft tissues. If these are ignored and allowed to become chronic, they will hinder the athlete’s rate of improvement. In many cases, their performance may suffer, and ultimately, the athlete may be susceptible to developing other concerning conditions. Most certainly, if they are unable to perform at their best, they may be at risk of other more traumatic injuries. For example, a player involved in a contact sport who is “carrying” an injury may not have their usual level of agility. They may then suffer an extrinsic injury due to not being fully prepared for the contact suffered from an unexpected tackle.

Benefits of Sports Massage

Massage applied skillfully is the most effective therapy for releasing muscle tension and restoring balance to the muscular-skeletal system. Received regularly, this may help athletes prevent injuries otherwise caused by overuse. A constant build-up of tension in the muscles from regular activity may lead to stresses on joints, ligaments, tendons, as well as the muscles themselves.

These muscle imbalances may develop and often go undiagnosed until they cause the athlete discomfort or impede performance. The skilled massage therapist will be able to detect variations in the soft tissues, and by using the correct techniques, help the sportsperson maintain a much healthier physical state. Therefore, it can be said, that one of the greatest benefits of sports massage is preventing injury.

Kinesiology Taping

Taping is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique. It has been designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process. It provides support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion or reducing circulation. It also provides extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered.

The LB tape is applied over muscles and joints to reduce pain and inflammation. Conventional sports tape is rigid and can restrict movement and decrease blood supply.

The benefits:

  • Reduces pain
  • Enhances blood and lymphatic flow
  • Assists with the return to normal muscle function
  • Improves proprioception and corrects joint malalignment.

lymph Drainage Massage

The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in protecting the body from infection and ridding it of waste products. It also has a vital ‘safety valve function’ as it maintains the correct fluid balance throughout the body tissues.

Made up of lymphatic vessels and nodes: your lymph system is your body’s first line of defence against disease and infection. The lymph nodes contain a large proportion of your white blood cells, which fight disease and infection. As the lymph filters through the nodes, the immune cells identify toxins, such as viruses and bacteria. Your body can then fight off infection and ‘remember’ those toxins the next time they appear. The lymphatic system is also responsible for removing other toxins from your body. Lymphatic fluid picks up toxins such as food additives and preservatives and filters them out for removal from the body. Having a healthy lymph system is vitally important to your well-being.

Manual Lymph Drainage is a very gentle, highly effective medical massage technique that encourages the natural circulation of lymph through the body to improve the overall functioning of the lymphatic system. Manual lymphatic draining is a treatment designed to help maintain a well-flowing lymphatic system that protects your health and immunity.

  • Manual lymphatic drainage helps treat a wide range of health conditions, injuries, and illnesses including:
  • Arthritis (even during flare-ups)
  • Breast surgery (segmental, simple, or total mastectomy)
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Fluid retention
  • General fatigue
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Low immunity
  • Musculoskeletal pains and conditions
  • Oedema (lymphedema)
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome
  • Pre-surgery (to soften and relax tissues to be operated on)Post-surgery (to reduce healing times and scar tissue formation and reduce the chance of infection)
  • Sport injuries
  • Weight gain

Please note: Certain conditions cannot be treated with manual lymphatic drainage. Others will require consultation with your GP or primary healthcare professional. Please mention any specific medical conditions when you make your appointment to ensure manual lymphatic drainage will be suitable for you.

iridology

Rather than a treatment; Iridology is a way of detecting signs of developing illness or disease. An iridologist will let you know about your overall health as well as whether you are moving towards illness. And may diagnose an issue long before clinical symptoms appear. It is this recognition of the potential for health issues at their earliest stage – before they become problems –- that is one of the main benefits of iridology. This allows you to take action early and make lifestyle changes to stay healthy.

It will help you determine:

  • Your constitutional strengths and weaknesses.
  • Nutritional deficiencies.
  • Areas of injury, inflammation, or degeneration.
  • Accumulation of toxins.
  • Emotional struggles

Your iridologist will look into your eyes using a small light and magnifying glass, and possibly take a photograph of your eyes. It is simple, painless, and non-intrusive.

Life Coaching

Life coaching is a solution-focused approach to personal development aimed at helping people make very positive and lasting changes in their lives. People, or clients, are encouraged to realize their true potential by following a process that will uncover and eliminate obstructive thinking and behavioural patterns in their lives. The life coach facilitates this change using tried and trusted tools and techniques to empower their clients in a caring, supportive, and inspiring environment.

A life coach is there to guide and inspire their client to bring about a clearer understanding of their aspirations, goals, and life purpose and to effect the necessary changes in their current and future behaviour to ensure the realization of those goals and aspirations. With the motivation, support, and caring that a good life coach can provide, most people can achieve far more and lead more fulfilling lives than they would if left to their own devices – human nature being what it is.
